Honey, I'm All Yours!
Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:23AM With too much on their to-do lists, a lot of couples are looking forward to relaxing over a special dinner on Valentine’s Day. Wonderful… yet, isn’t it true that the very next day, that long list is still there - with all the worry about how to get everything done?
Wouldn’t you enjoy getting help with your list? Have dinner and give the gift of your time. Open your hearts and calendars by scheduling three hours to help your loved one. Good friends can do this, too.
Do so with the spirit of “Honey, I’m All Yours!” If you do this for each other, that’s six hours of taking care of each other. How loving is that?!
To make it more enjoyable, schedule the three hours for each other on different days. This way it’s clear whose time it really is, and you prevent getting unnecessarily tired cramming too much into one day. (Remember, it’s important to feel good being together, not just feel good because you got a lot done.)
When the time arrives, be generous. Share ideas, but don’t argue or resent giving your time away. Just do what s/he asks you to do. If clearing clutter, for example, help carry boxes, get a truck, or make calls to find the best place for donations.
Even better, do this every month or two, and you’ll continually ease the burden of the to-do list. Oh joy!
Giving the gift of your time doesn’t cost a thing, and is worth its weight in gold in today’s hectic life. You’ll simply feel better knowing that some help is along the way.
So slip a note into your Valentine’s card saying, “Honey, I’m All Yours!” Let me know how it goes. I would like to share your stories.
