Getting Rid of Electronic Clutter

I had no idea that my fabulous, new iPhone would produce such clutter. My Blackberry was “planned obsolescence,” but the rest?!

I had to laugh - after all I am a de-cluttering expert. I knew my "stuff" becomes my clutter as I change, and the change I wanted was that iPhone, but so much clutter was a surprise.

The iPhone’s wicked cool features instantly replaced my perfectly good:

2 year old Canon camera,

1 year old Flip camera, and

12 year old beautiful clock next to my bed.

Now what do I do with all my clutter? I’m busy. Ugh. One more thing to take care of.

I could toss the stuff in a drawer...and wait till I had more time to deal with it (yah, right!). Out of site out of mind, I would just forget about it until I stumbled over it again (and feel bad because of the waste). The longer I waited, the cameras would lose value...

OK, OK! Those things bumped up my clutter-clearing to a priority... important enough for me to make the time to deal with it now.

Now what? Take the time to think 1st, do 2nd.  How do I let go of my clutter?

I had to find the right fit. There’s no one right way to “get rid of” clutter; instead, find the right way for you.

My Considerations:

  1. I worried that the flip camera was a little too scratched to be worth my time to sell.
  2. There was no other good place in my home for my bedside table clock to go.
  3. I don’t like selling stuff over the internet, but I don’t like clutter more, and wasn’t interested in a yard sale.

My Solutions:

  1. Give the Flip camera to my neighbor’s kid for his birthday. Easy.
  2. Sell my clock at Still Life Consignment http://bit.ly/dmghad. I was already going there on a buying trip for a client. Easy.
  3. Sell the Canon camera on Craigslist while taking advantage of Apple’s great training program. They’ll help if I get stuck. Easy.
  4. Now for the BlackBerry, my planned obsolescence. That will go to ReCellular, a big recycler/reseller of mobiles (in 2009, $3 million went to charity from donated phones).  How cool is that?!

This gadget replacement is making us a bit crazy. Read article to learn more. There’s more to consider than we know, but getting rid of electronics is getting easier.
